Orlando DUI Lawyer: DUI Accidents

Drunk driving is legally defined as driving while visibly impaired and/or driving with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 or above. Like other states, Florida takes this offense seriously. People who are convicted of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can face serious civil and criminal penalties.

Unfortunately, criminal penalties do little to help people who have been injured by drunk drivers. To receive compensation for medical bills and other personal injury expenses, it may be necessary to take legal action against the reckless driver. Contact Orlando DUI lawyer Todd Miner at 407-420-4040 to learn more about your legal rights and options.

Penalties for a Drunk Driving Conviction

If a driver is pulled over and eventually convicted of driving while intoxicated, he or she could face the following penalties:

  • A fine between $250 and $500
  • Up to six months in jail
  • Up to one year of probation
  • Driver’s license suspension of 180 days
  • Completion of a class on the dangers of DUI
  • Up to 50 hours of community service

If the driver was found to have a BAC of .2 or above, or had a minor in the car at the time he or she was pulled over, the fines and jail time could increase. All of the penalties increase with each DWI conviction within a five year period; a fourth conviction means permanent license suspension.

While it may be satisfying to see a drunk driver face criminal penalties, it will not help his or her victims recoup their losses. Orlando DUI injury lawyer Todd Miner works hard to help victims of negligence win fair compensation for their expenses.
