A 51-year-old Fruitland Park motorcyclist was killed Monday night after he collided with a black bear in Marion County, police said. Reports say the black bear ran out directly into the man’s path. The front end of the bike hit the bear’s left side, causing the bike to overturn and eject the man.
The bike slid across the road and ended on the shoulder, authorities said. The man tumbled across the road, coming to a stop in the opposite lane. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead shortly after.
