1 dead, 5 injured in multi-vehicle crash

One person was killed and five people, including three children, were injured last week in a multi-vehicle accident in Orlando, authorities said. Police said a vehicle suddenly veered into another lane, crashing into another vehicle, causing it to spin onto the opposite side of the roadway. The first vehicle then collided with another vehicle.

Emergency response crews had to use hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the victims from the vehicles. The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The five injured were taken to hospitals for treatment as well, authorities said.

Elderly man found dead after house fire

An elderly man, thought to be in his 90s, was found dead when firefighters responded to a structure fire Tuesday night, authorities said. Firefighters said they found him in the main living area of the Marion County house.

When they arrived, they found the wood-frame house completely engulfed in flames, authorities said. It took about an hour to subdue the flames, authorities said. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

2 buses collide, injuring 8

A Walt Disney World bus hit the back of an empty Waldorf Astoria bus Tuesday, authorities said, sending eight to the hospital. The Disney bus driver was trapped behind the wheel and had to be cut out. He suffered serious injuries, authorities said.

The Waldorf bus was stopped because of mechanical difficulties. The driver was outside the bus at the time of the accident and was not injured, authorities said. The accident occurred outside Epcot in the right-hand lane near the parking toll plaza, police said.

4 Motorcyclists Killed in Crash

A truck passing another vehicle in Sumter County Saturday night hit four motorcyclists head-on and killed them, authorities said. According to reports, the westbound truck was in the eastbound lane while passing, and the 45-year-old truck driver realized the motorcyclists were closer than he thought. He couldn’t slow soon enough to avoid a crash, reports say.

Both drivers and both passengers were ejected when he hit the two motorcycles. One passenger was thrown into the windshield of another vehicle, police said. Three of the motorcyclists were pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and the fourth was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Pilot, Passenger Die in Plane Crash

Two men were killed last week in a plane crash in Winter Haven, Fla. The plane appeared to have lost power shortly after taking off around 9:30 a.m., authorities said, and crashed into a tree. The pilot’s dog was the only survivor in the accident.

Police found the pilot lying near the plane and administered first aid before pronouncing him dead on the scene. The passenger was trapped inside the plane after the accident and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He died shortly after midnight, authorities said.

Man Dies in Crash With Black Bear

A 51-year-old Fruitland Park motorcyclist was killed Monday night after he collided with a black bear in Marion County, police said. Reports say the black bear ran out directly into the man’s path. The front end of the bike hit the bear’s left side, causing the bike to overturn and eject the man.

The bike slid across the road and ended on the shoulder, authorities said. The man tumbled across the road, coming to a stop in the opposite lane. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Vacationer Killed While Walking on Median

A Tennessee woman on vacation in Florida was hit by a car and killed early Friday morning as she was walking along the center median. The 29-year-old woman got out of the car and began walking as the driver made a U-turn to pull into a parking lot, authorities said.

The vehicle was in the right lane, police said. Another approaching vehicle moved into the left lane to pass the slow-moving car. The vehicle’s left front bumper hit the woman as she walked in the dark. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
