Tomorrow, the state will have a entirely new law for seatbelts that is apart of the 'Click It or Ticket' program nationwide. This program has been a part of a national push in order to reduce the number of serious or fatal traffic accidents each year, and the number of injuries that result from them.
The new laws will make it punishable for a driver or passenger if they are not wearing their seatbelts. The law has a few minor exceptions, but generally almost everyone has to now buckle up or face a possible fine.

A man from Leesburg was recently charged and will soon face trial for first-degree felony charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
The accident took place in May of 2008 at night. While driving, the man hit a woman on the side of the road, and then drove off. Authorities questioned the man after tracking down his vehicle which was suspected in the accident. The man stated that he had hit something when he was distracted by an item on the ground in his car. He did state that he never believed that he had hit a woman.
The charges have been delayed for some time now, as it takes a lot of time to gather proper evidence from a vehicle accident such as this one.

Legislation has recently been passed and signed that will not allow local governments to charge for police and fire services following an accident.
Charging for emergency services after an accident has sometimes been referred to as an "accident tax". These types of charges have received lots of controversy because they seem to be punishing individuals who are involved in an accident and to receive aid.
This current legislation will not allow local governments to charge for police or fire services, however other services such as ambulance, medical helicopters, or clean-up crews are still allowed to charge for an accident.

Many accidents that involve serious injury occur because vehicles are travelling at high rates of speed. The posted speed limits along a road and highway have been determined by professional engineers on what would be the most efficient and safest speed to travel at.
The likelihood that an accident will be very serious depends on a variety of factors. Speed is one of the biggest factors, because once a certain threshold is hit, accidents are almost always fatal over speeds of 95 miles per hour. At much slower speeds, accidents can also be fatal if a seat belt is not worn..
Obeying the speed limit also saves money, because it reduces an engines consumption of gasoline. Be safe and save money by obeying the speed limit.
